The Mousikè Youth Orchestra of Cremona, part of the larger "Mousikè" project, was founded in 2006 in collaboration with the Department of Education Policies of Cremona, with the support of the Stauffer Foundation, and with the experience gained from the music oriented courses at the “M. G. Vida” School. The orchestra is open to youths between the ages of 8 to 18, whatever their musical background, and to those who wish to study a musical instrument. It is a dynamic ensemble, which is renewed every year as those musicians over 18 years old leave and make way for new members. The objective of the orchestral project is to give young people a space where they can create music together and where they can develop, improve and foster their technical and instrumental skills. The initiative also proposes important educational goals related to the well being of the members, the development of their social and relational skills, and as means to prevent distressing situations. The continual evolution and the steady increase in membership – the ensemble currently numbers seventy – reflects to the group’s artistic growth; the ensemble has given numerous public performances and attests to the commitment of the teachers of each of the instrumental sections. The repertoire has been adapted by the teaching staff, to meet the needs of individual instrumental groups or for individual musicians, and ranges from classical to the contemporary tastes of the younger generation. The Orchestra has been featured in many important events and public concerts at Ponchielli Theatre in Cremona, and at the Filodrammatici Theatre and Palazzo Farnese in Piacenza. It has participated in two regional events for musical schools organized by the regional education department, and it is often requested by various public and private institutions to represent youth performers in Cremona. The orchestral project teaching staff provide instruction in the city’s most important musical institutions and have years of teaching experience. The repertoire includes a range of musical genres (classical, modern, jazz, etc.) and strives to capture the musical sensibility of today's youth.
